The Meltagun is kit-bashed a bit. It is a Bolter, with the barrel of a spare Dreadnought
Multimelta glued on. I also added the fuel tank (or whatever it is) towards the rear of the gun. Last, I glued a small length of guitar string for the tubing slung underneath. It isn't perfect, but I didn't want to hunt down Meltagun bits or buy the metal set GW makes.

No major conversion work here, but I added another homemade Meltagun to the Scout with the rolled up cloak (on the far left). It is glued to his back, you can see it here (on the far left, poking out about the Scout in front of him):

This one is a Bolter with some plastic rod acting as a Melta barrel. I didn't have another spare Melta laying around, so I had to improvise. I had planned on painting a camouflage pattern on the cloaks of this unit, but I couldn't find one that didn't look "toyish" to me. And, since Wolf Scouts don't have access to stealth cloaks, I let it go. I like the look of the simple, white cloaks, though.

Hey dave, have only just come across this page and i doubt you will see this but its always nice when someone compliments your work so here goes, realy nice conversion work, simple but effective, love you,re melta conversion couldnt realy see the second melta, perhaps a close up? How did you do the snow effect? Have been trying to get a decent looking snow on my sw for years and so far have only come up with poly filler with snow flock on top but yours looks more.....slushy and realistic? Again realy nice work, keep it up - Dann.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words! You're right: it's never too late to hear a compliment! The 2nd Meltagun is slung on the sniper backback, so he can still carry his sniper rifle (the Meltagun replaces his CCW). It is hard to see in the pic I posted. I'll have to dig these guys out and post another pic.
As for the snow, it is pretty simple. I use Gale Force 9's Snow flock (http://www.thewarstore.com/product26662.html), which I mix with a bit of white PVA glue (Elmer's school glue). There's no set ratio or anything, I just mix a little bit at a time in a bowl (usually using a toothpick or popsicle stick) until I get a slushy looking effect, then I paint some slightly watered down PVA glue on the model where I want snow to be. I use a toothpick to scoop some snow mix on the model, and position it. Once the mix dries out, it retains the slushy look, but is actually really stiff. I do all of this before a dull spray varnish of the model.
I'll be completing some snow on my converted Thunderwolf Cavalry in the next week or so. I'll take some pics and post a tutorial next week, in case that is unclear.

ReplyDeletethanks for the advice, will definatley be giving that a go, cant wait to see you thunder wolf conversions, have been making some myself but fear they might be slightly too big, however have converted a terminator to look like a larger version of power armour, figured it cant hurt considering the amouunt of fluff ive found about sw having to have power armour specialy made by the iron priest due to the tramsformation process bulking them out so much lol, look forward to seeing more of your stuff.
